Basic Information On Skin Cancer And Its Types

cancer saver

As a person grows older, his skin begins to wrinkle, oil and sweat glands slow down which causes the skin to be dry.  As you probably have noticed in an old man’s skin, it is dry unlike the skin of young adults which is still fresh and still looks healthy.  Another thing is that the skin may lose elasticity and the tone of normal skin and this might cause changes in the facial contours.  This is just a normal occurrence as we age up and might as well just accept the fact that we are no longer getting any younger. An in-Depth Review on Brain Cancer Symptoms

cancer saver

In a world where improving health is consistently being expressed as a priority in the media, at the doctor’s office, and other resources many are now showing an interest in learning what the most common brain cancer symptoms are. While there are many tumors that do produce symptoms in individuals that are suffering from them, there are many tumors that simply do not result in any symptoms whatsoever. Cone Beam CT on Radiotherapy Treatment

cancer saver

Cone beam technology was first developed using mega voltage radiation. This obviously gave the patient a significantly high dose and the resulting images gained were relatively poor. The advantages of being able to construct a 3D volume were recognised and manufacturers developed kilo-voltage cone beam computed tomography (kV-CBCT). This can be used for adaptive radiotherapy (ART) to produce a plan which for example, reflects the volume of the bladder at the time of treatment. The RMH in Sutton is writing a paper (un-published) on bladder ART. They produce 3 plans for each patients phase 2 treatment, with 3 different bladder sizes. They then construct a cone beam CT of the patient prior to treatment for each fraction of the phase 2 treatment plan. The radiographers then match and select the most appropriate plan for the size of the ptients bladder that day. This provides the optimum plan, but does not take into account any intra-fraction movement. Researchers wrote about how they are using cone beam CT to adapt their plans. On prostate patients they use the data obtained from the cone beam ct in the first week of treatment to predict where the prostate is likely to be, in relation to bony anatomy, for the phase 2. One problem they experienced was the movement of gas in the rectum, which could negatively affect the quality of the cone beam ct images. This highlights the limitation of the relatively slow acquisition time, but also shows the problems with intra-fraction movement. Some centers are even routinely using laxatives, during the patient’s radiotherapy treatment, and are still showing that rectal movement does affect, prostate positioning intra-fractionally. Non Melanoma Skin Cancer on the Rise

cancer saver

By now you’ve heard that skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the U.S., and have probably also heard (maybe ignored) warnings about the sun. Now might be a good time to listen, as a new study finds that non melanoma skin cancer appears to be on the rise in the U.S.

Figures from 1992-2006 have cases of non melanoma skin cancer in the Medicare population rising an average of 4.2% a year. It’s important to understand that most of the cases of nonmelanoma skin cancer diagnosed in the U.S. each year are considered to be related to sun exposure. Read the rest of this entry

Information on Mesothelioma

cancer saver

Mesothelioma is a very rare type of cancer. The cells in this type of cancer are found in mesothelioum, which is a protective bag that covers most of the internal organs in the body. There are two types of mesothelioma – pleural and peritoneal.

Pleural mesothelioma is related to the sac that covers the pleural cavity which goes around the lungs and peritoneal mesothelioma is related to the tissue that surrounds the abdominal area.

Mesothelioma is caused when a worker is severely exposed to asbestos for a long period of time. The problem has become very common because asbestos is present in a number of products. The number of people getting exposed to asbestos is very high and the chances of the cancer spreading among people have increased drastically. Many people have also lost their lives because of lack of treatment.

The treatment for this type of disease includes chemotherapy and radiation, clinical trials or surgery. There are many workers who are suffering from this disease and there are many who have lost their lives. Read the rest of this entry

You’ve probably heard of the most deadly form of cancer of the skin, melanoma, but there are other, less dangerous but still serious, forms as well. These include basal cell carcinoma, often in patients with light hair, light eyes and fair complexions. Squamous cell carcinoma is another form also generally found on the skin of Caucasian people, typically appearing as nodules on the skin along the rim of the ear, face, mouth and lips.

According to the research, in 2006, an estimated 3.5 million nonmelanoma skin cancers were diagnosed in the United States. Read the rest of this entry

If You've Been Exposed to Asbestos You Need This Information on the Asbestos Cancer, Mesothelioma

cancer saver

It is sad to report, but the asbestos cancer, also known as Mesothelioma, is spreading far and wide throughout the world as the unregulated use of asbestos continues. The compound asbestos has been used in the construction industry since the early 1940’s. In the 1960’s it was discovered that this compound causes the type of cancer known as Mesothelioma. Even with the discovery of the link to cancer, unfettered use of the compound continues around the world. The few countries that do regulate the use and handling of asbestos are trying to make the world aware of the dangers of asbestos and exactly what Mesothelioma is.

Mesothelioma spreads as a sheet of malignant cells

Mesothelioma spreads as a sheet of malignant cells that covers many of the organs in the chest. As the disease touches the large blood vessels, the heart sac, and ribs, it spreads to each area. This makes it almost impossible to treat and cure because the damage the cancer causes is so extensive.

Treatment of Mesothelioma depend on several factors

Treatment of Mesothelioma depends on several factors that determine the prognosis and the types of treatments available. These factors include what stage the cancer is in, the tumor’s size, whether or not the tumor is able to be completely surgically removed, the amount of fluid built up in the chest or abdomen areas, age and general health of the patient, the type of Mesothelioma cancer cells and what they look like under the microscope, and whether or not this is the first occurrence of cancer or if this is a return of the cancer. Tips on Wig Selection For Cancer Patients

cancer saver

Facing a diagnosis of cancer and the necessity of undergoing chemotherapy requires great courage. It is a known fact that, in many but not all cases, a cancer patient will lose their hair for a time. During this time frame, it is important to obtain well fitting wigs to conceal the hair loss. There need be no embarrassment, as the quality of wigs today is very high and no one will know that the cancer patient is wearing a wig at all.

Types of Wigs

Synthetic

Many hairpieces that are sold these days are synthetic. This is due to the fact that synthetic hairpieces are lightweight, realistic looking and there are so many choices available. Synthetic wigs are less costly than human hair and far more durable. Because they are less costly, it is possible to buy several synthetic wigs and change looks in this manner. Synthetic hairpieces are sensitive too and should certainly be kept away from all types of heat. It is possible to wash a synthetic wig but be sure to use products that are specially designed to clean synthetic wigs. Styling of synthetic wigs will most likely ruin the wig and is not recommended.

Human Hair

It is quite possible, although more costly, to obtain hairpieces that are made from real hair. The best part of these wigs is that they may be styled to suit the wearer. Human hair wigs should be brushed, washed with the special shampoos and cared for just like regular hair. Human hair wigs appear completely natural for obvious reasons. They are real hair and they feel very authentic. Many wig wearers do prefer real hair because of the “believability” aspect.
